Prayer for Rest
God, if it wasn’t for you I would work myself to death. I would be a slave to productivity, to accomplishment and to making a name for myself. But you have set me free to be your child. You set a table before me, put a robe on my back, and called me your beloved before I ever accomplished anything. I want to know the sweetness of salvation again. I want to know the security of being your child, of being one in whom God is well pleased.
I want to rest in your promises— promises that are as good as fulfilled. Lord of the Sabbath, give me rest. Be my pasture. Be my nourishment. Be my deep, enduring peace. Give me the patience to know when to slow down. Give me the confidence to look at what’s been done and say, by your grace, it is good. Let me rest in confidence that you are ever before me, behind me, and in front of me preparing the way. Train my heart and my soul in the ways of rest and let me be refreshed in joy.
Amen.
